Fire Guts Canadian Embassy Building in Abuja

Fire on Monday gutted a section of the Embassy of Canada, in Abuja.

The inferno at the complex, located at 13010G, Palm Close, Diplomatic Drive, Central Business District, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), started around 11am, according to eyewitnesses.

It was said to have started while a power-generating set was being repaired.

An unconfirmed number of workers and technical crew, working on a generating set, were said to have suffered various degrees of injury.

Some of them were said to have been blown out of the generating room, due to the force of the bang.

Firefighting trucks were seen trying to contain the fire, while an ambulance was evacuating those injured. Traffic was also restricted around the area.

As rescue operations were going on, lucky staff were seen lamenting the incident.

Head of Operations of the FCT Fire Service, Amiola Adebayo, who confirmed the incident to Punch in a phone interview, disclosed that two people suffered fatal injuries and that all those affected have been rushed to the hospital.

He said “Yes, yes, it’s true. We have two fatally injured and the others in the hospital, either three or four.”
