Media Icons: Onayiga Reappointed Chairman of NUJ’s Reconstituted Recognition Committee

Veteran journalist, Otunba Gbenga Onayiga, has been reappointed as chairman of the reconstituted Committee on Recognition of Media Icons.

The committee was set up by the Chief Chris Isiguzo-led national leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

National Secretary of the NUJ, Shu’aibu Usman Leman, said in a statement in Abuja that the committee is made up of 11 members drawn from different councils of the union.

According to him, members of the committee, which will organise the second edition of the event later this year, are Adeleye Ajayi, Tunde Olalere, Sylvester Okereke, Wale Akodu, Julie Ekong and Abimbola Oyetunde.

Others are Festus Alenkhe, Grace Ike, Ifeanyi Nwanguma, Umar Saidu and Olayide Awosanya, who will serve as the secretary.

“Milestone Recognition of Media Icons is the brainchild of Lagos Council and the National Secretariat of NUJ.

“The programme seeks to celebrate outstanding media professionals. The maiden edition last year attracted distinguished media personalities and employers,” he added.

Among those recognised at the maiden event are the Publisher of Vanguard Newspapers, Mr. Sam Amuka, former Governor of Ogun State, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, Publisher of ThisDay Newspapers, Prince Nduka Obaigbena and late Chairman of Daar Communications, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi.

Others are the Chairman of Channels Media Group, Mr. John Momoh, former Chairman of the Lagos Council of the NUJ, Mrs. Olufunke Fadugba and Chairman of Blueprint Newspaper, Alhaji Mohammed Idris.
