We Remain Traditional Rulers, not Politicians, 75 Coronet Obas Insist After Visiting Adedibu

Following the outcry that greeted their visit to father of a prominent politician of the main opposition party in Ogun State, 75 Coronet Obas installed in the twilight of the administration of erstwhile Sen. Ibikunle Amosun, have insisted they remain traditional rulers and not politicians.

Their visit to Odole Oodua, Sir Kessington Adebutu, father of Hon. Ladi Adebutu, a gubernatorial aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in the last gubernatorial poll, was not political.

In a statement issued in Abeokuta and signed by General Secretary of the G-75 Obas and Olu of Ipebi Ijebu Mushin, Oba Tanimowo Folarin, Olu Ipebi Ijebu Mushin, they said, Sir Keshington Adebutu only invited them to an annual new year celebration in Iperu, Ogun state.

“Odole Oodua is a revered high chief, who will never invite any traditional ruler to a political meeting and as traditional rulers, we are not politicians and we remain so”, they stated.

Also according to the obas, the visit was put in place for a very long time and could not be turned down because of “the pedigree of the personality of Sir. Keshington Adebutu.

”I wish to state that Odole Oodua, Sir. Keshington Adebutu, is a respected high chief, who has bagged several chieftaincy titles, not only in Ogun state, but also all the states in the South West from traditional rulers, because of his philanthropic gestures to humanities.

“As our constitutional roles, traditional rulers should not be seen or heard to be political, instead they should be seen to be protecting the traditional heritage, they added.

Pledging their loyalty to the incumbent Prince Dapo Abiodun-led government, they said “we remain apolitical, very committed and loyal to the present administration”, while also assuring of their continued support to the success of the programmes of his administration.
