There are fears that yet to be confirmed number of people, including Police escorts and aides in the convoy of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, representing Anambra South Senatorial District of Anambra state, have been killed, when his convoy was attacked at Enugwu Ukwu in Njikoka Local Government Area by gunmen.

Sources have given conflicting numbers of the casualties, but Uba was said to have been injured in the attack, which occurred on Sunday evening.

It was said that the convoy of the Young Peoples’ Party (YPP) senator was ambushed by heavily armed men, who opened fire on the cars.

“The senator managed to escape as his car was riddled with bullets.

“I was driving up to that spot from the link road to the express when some people in a shop shouted at me and asked me to turn back and take another road, which I did,” an eyewitness recounted.

Another witness revealed that all the arms of the Policemen were collected by the attackers, who, according to him, were no fewer than nine.

Spokesperson of the Enugu State Police Command, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, while confirming the incident, said, “yes, there was an attack at Enugwu-Ukwu today, but the casualty figure is not clear.

“As I speak to you, the CP has personally led a team of men to the scene, and normalcy has been restored,” he added.
